I was thinking about that when I was dropping my 6 year old off at some hobbies earlier - it's pretty much expected to have learned how to ride a bicycle before starting school, and it massively expands the area you can go to by yourself. When she went to school by bicycle she can easily make a detour via a shop to spend some pocket money before coming home, while by foot that'd be rather time consuming.

Quite a lot of friends from outside of Europe either can't ride a bicycle, or were learning it as adult after moving here, though.

edit: the high number of replies mentioning "swimming" made me realize that I had that filed as a basic skill pretty much everybody has - probably due to swimming lessons being a mandatory part of school education here.

How is that a New Canadian thing though? What countries are they from and what fucking intergalactic class missile proof God tier plumbing do they have there? Bottle caps???

Because mainstream media and Trudeau have stopped the real information about Canada from getting out, people don't realize that the Fallout games are really stories based on life here in the north. Bottle caps are currency here.

Kinda explains the exchange rate, ya know?

Ohhhh yeah they sure do bud.

They don't have any real plumbing at all in a lot of places, which is exactly how this happens. Throwing various things into a pit toilet that will just be buried over doesn't clog anything.

I guess I was more curious why people are popping the caps off their beverages while on the toilet.

"Don't shit where you eat" or some variant thereof is pretty universal; I (stupidly?) assumed "don't eat where you shit" would be equally so.
