I've heard squeaking from an extruder that had little bits and shards of previous filament that was getting stuck during loading and unloading of filament rolls. You might try opening it up and seeing if there's anything stuck in the channel or grinding against a gear.

Yeah maybe I can see if the gear is grinding against the body and see about adding some lubricant. As long as I don't grease the teeth by mistake it should be fine

Try using PTFE-based dry lubricant (like Super Lube) instead of grease - it won't attract dust or gum up the mechanisim like regular oils will.
