Snip:

The Israeli army announced on 8 July the deaths of five soldiers and the injury of over a dozen others due to an ambush laid by resistance fighters in the northern Gaza Strip the night before.

According to an initial army investigation, infantry soldiers from the Kfir Brigade's Netzah Yehuda Battalion were hit by a roadside explosive device. The army confirmed that rescue forces also came under fire while working to evacuate the casualties.

Among the 14 soldiers wounded in the ambush were two who were listed as being in serious condition.

The northern city of Beit Hanoun, where the ambush took place, had been heavily bombarded ahead of the army’s operations in the area, and had reportedly been secured by the Israeli military. The ambush took place shortly after 10:00 pm on Monday evening.

The Israeli army announced

Who knows what is real when that's the context. Given the magnitude of the attacks it's pretty hard to believe that only 5 were killed but 20 sounds like an exaggeration in the other direction. It's hard to know but the fact that they've admitted to as much as they have means it was bad.

One out of every three IOF soldiers is a general so statistically they got at least one.

casualties includes both injured and killed, 5 killed and 15 injures = 20 casualties
