"Single-player games with plenty of weapons to upgrade, skills to gain, and currencies to spend are perhaps the archetypal iteration of this phenomenon, but almost all contemporary games contain some mimetic elements of work and market exchange. They don’t offer fantasies of escape, of imaginative play for its own sake; they offer a fantasy of rules—a rationality otherwise missing from the contemporary wage labor process. Vicky Osterweil has called this type of game a “utopian work simulator”; it doles out rewards at predictable intervals in exchange for our disciplined effort. These rewards can make the game easier, allow us to purchase in-game adornments, signal our achievements to others, and progress in a logical and satisfying trajectory toward an achievable goal. Games remain a form of diversion, but what they divert us from is not our labor, but our disappointment with its volatility, its arbitrariness, its cruelty and unfairness."

Well, After hundreds of GB of torrents downloaded, I slipped up. I've been changing around linux distros recently and i believe i configured my VPN wrong or forgot to turn it back on after doing something. Well, I finally got hit with a copyright warning. Just your typical "we had to send this" type of warning but none-the-less, I slipped up.

Sharing this because the day before it happened, I read a post about not only having your killswitch on but also binding your client to you vpn interface for situations like this. Needless to say I didn't take that precaution. For those who are on linux, I found a great post about how to set this up on reddit and wanted to remind people to "double wrap" because why not be safe lol.

The steps were more or less as follows (for QBitTorrent at least):

  1. Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced Settings

  2. Under "Network Interface", select your vpn interface. To test, check what shows with your vpn on, and then turn it off and re-navigate to this part to see what dissapeared. Thats likely your vpn interface if the name wasn't clear. (Do not be seeding/downloading torrents while doing this in case).

  3. To test, download a non-copyright torrent like the Ubuntu ISO torrent. In the middle of download, disconnect or close your vpn connection. This should stop the download.

Not sure if reddit links are cool here but here is the guide source if anyones interested. https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/comments/ssy8vv/guide_bind_vpn_network_interface_to_torrent/

Summary

Sheryl Crow announced on Instagram that she is selling her Tesla and donating the proceeds to NPR, citing concerns over Elon Musk’s leadership.

NPR is under political scrutiny, with Republican lawmakers and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr launching investigations.

Crow’s move is a protest against Musk’s influence in government and Trump’s efforts to defund public media.

I have anger issues, which I can’t control. I am considered conventionally attractive (though I don’t see it) and many people think I’m cool and want to be around me.

Like I said, though, I have anger issues where I will act quite aggressively towards people. One time, someone I knew said hi to me, so I screamed “I HEARD YOU”. I also tend to type very dryly and with periods when I’m upset (which is admittedly ~90% of the time but I can’t control that).

My friend doesn’t talk to me as much and I really don’t get why because even when I’m “aggressive”, it’s tough love and I’m trying to help them. If I didn’t love her, I wouldn’t be like that.

I’m even like this with guys I’ve dated and I love them not as brothers.

Women also piss me off more than men do, so I hang out more with them because I feel like they get me and aren’t as bitchy. (Part of the reason why I’m bi curious but never found a woman I’d date, excluding one I almost went out with).

While I do tend to praise men and ignore women, as some people say, it’s tough love since I think women should be the best versions of themselves :) [I believe this is why society is so hard on women as a whole]

But yeah, TLDR; My mood problems impact the people I care about, and I’m wondering if it’s a turn off since some people don’t want to be around me rather than loving me for me.

I have a reason for my actions, people just choose to ignore those reasons and misinterpret me.

Just discovered #spotdl (https://github.com/spotDL/spotify-downloader). It's a great way to download songs from #youtube with metadata and lyrics, or to just quickly listen to that one song somebody sent you. Cli and webui are available and it's very configurable

#spotify #musicdownload #spotifydownloader #selfhosted @selfhosted

I don't think this has been a local phenomenon either; my impression is that people are doing this nationally.

Hey all,

I got back from a few days out of town and my hot water wasn't working.

The ventilation was blocked by over 4 feet of snow that drifted alongside my house completely blocking the exhaust vent.

Make sure to do a walkaround and check your laundry and exhaust vents!

All full on Drives [Rule] (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

My NAS setup currently.

8 8TB drives (the NAS is like 6 years old) in RaidZ2.

Edit: The scribbled spot is a SSD that had the barcodes visible. The SSD is a 1TB drive for VM installs and other stuff that isn't deep storage.

Edit2: The SSD isn't anchored because it has no moving parts and it was placed like that for testing... 4 months ago... It's just temporary I swear!

Edit3: For those curious the case is a Darkrock Classic Storage Master

I'm working on a project that needs a similar approach to slack or discord. I know about matrix, but the person I'm working with said to be open to use a fediverse alternate when I tell them I didn't want to use slack. I mention matrix and the fediverse as an alternative and they asked me a good fediverse option.

It's needs to be good for team collaboration, easy to set and be able to maintain original images quality.
